Shia Labeouf is turning his back on Hollywood blockbusters – because he’s desperate to show off his acting abilities in "grittier" movies.
The actor is the star of the hit Transformers franchise and is expected to reprise his role in a third instalment, but admits his dream part would be as troubled teen Holden Caulfield in a big-screen adaptation of The Catcher in the Rye.
He tells FHM magazine, “I really like all that beatnik culture, I think it would be fun, just for my family, and the way that I was raised. I don’t know if I’m interested in the blockbuster whimsical stuff any more – I want to be a little ballsier; balls, blood and death, kind of thing… Not outrageously so, just something a little grittier, with a little more meat to chew on.”
LaBeouf will next appear alongside girlfriend Carey Mulligan and Michael Douglas and in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
