David Hyde Pierce will lead tribute concerts to veteran composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim this week (15/16Mar10), in celebration of the Broadway great’s 80th birthday.
The Tony Award winner will become an octogenarian on 22 March (10).
Pierce will salute the legend on Monday and Tuesday night, as host of two New York Philharmonic concerts.
The tribute will include songs and orchestral pieces from Sondheim musical-theatre favourites, including Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and Sunday in the Park with George, among others.
