Cybill Shepherd’s son has been offered the chance to keep criminal charges off his record following his arrest for theft – but he must prove his good character to the court.
Cyrus Zacharia Shepherd-Oppenheim was on-board a United Airlines plane from San Francisco, California in January (10) when he allegedly rifled through fellow passengers’ hand luggage while they were sleeping.
Travellers spotted the 22-year-old student acting suspiciously and alerted airline staff – he was arrested upon arrival at Philadelphia International Airport in Pennsylvania and later charged with the theft of cash, a camera and other items from carry-on baggage.
But on Tuesday (20Apr10) a judge at Philadelphia Municipal Court gave him the opportunity to join a pretrial diversion program, which offers first-time offenders a chance to avoid prosecution.
If Shepherd-Oppenheim abides by the conditions of the program, he will not be convicted.
Another hearing has been set for 4 June (10).
