Halliwell ‘Storms Off Cowell Talent Show’

Geri Halliwell

Singer Geri Halliwell stormed off Simon Cowell’s U.K. TV talent contest The X Factor – after she was booed for making harsh comments as a guest judge.

The former Spice Girl agreed to appear on the series’ judging panel at an audition in Glasgow, Scotland on Wednesday (09Jun10), filling in for pregnant pop star Dannii Minogue.

But she failed to charm members of the live audience and was roundly jeered after criticising the wannabe pop stars trying out on-stage.

Halliwell appeared upset over the crowd’s reaction and was spotted leaving the judges’ table during filming, with Cowell following her backstage.

An insider tells Britain’s Daily Star, “It all started off well for Geri and then she blew it. She was quite mean. Even the other judges were a bit taken aback by some of her comments.

“She even outdid Simon Cowell. Some people were saying, ‘Thank God she’s only a stand-in.’”

Spice Girls Preparing For Second Comeback?

The Spice Girls are hoping to regroup for another comeback tour – but the bandmembers are struggling to convince Victoria Beckham to return, according to a U.K. report.

The Wannabe hitmakers thrilled fans when they returned for a sold-out world trek in 2007 and 2008 – the first time the original line-up had performed together since Geri Halliwell quit to go solo in 1998.

Following the jaunt, Beckham vowed to hang up her microphone for good to concentrate on her fashion ventures.

The girl group is now reportedly eager to get back on stage – but singers Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm are struggling to persuade Beckham to join them, according to Britain’s Daily Mirror.

A source tells the publication, “The girls are so excited. They are buzzing about getting back together and each have so many new ideas and so much to bring to the table.

“They are desperate to get Posh (Beckham) on board, but that is the sticking point.

“Although she’s still so nostalgic about the good old days, she has moved on now and is relishing the fashion world. They don’t want to give up on her, but have so many plans.

“The way things are going they might have to go on without her if she doesn’t come round soon.”

Halliwell Gushes About Boyfriend

Geri Halliwell has opened up about boyfriend Henry Beckwith, insisting her relationship with the aristocrat is the longest romance she’s maintained since finding fame with the Spice Girls.

The pop star began dating Beckwith, the British heir to a multi-million dollar fortune, last year (09) and admits she’s surprised they’re still going strong – because she has always struggled to make her relationships last.

In an interview on British TV show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Halliwell says, “I met him on a beach. I was quite instantly attracted to him. He just instantly got my attention. He walked on the beach and I went, ‘Ooh!’

“He’s my longest boyfriend I’ve had for the last 16 years. (We’ve been together) almost a year. When I was in the Spice Girls and doing my solo career, there just wasn’t any time. I just wasn’t present (in my relationships).”

Halliwell has previously dated fellow singer Robbie Williams, and has a three-year-old daughter, Bluebell Madonna, from a brief relationship with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi. She was also engaged to Italian millionaire Fabrizio Politi, but that relationship ended in early 2009.

Halliwell’s Solo Interview Spelt End Of Spice Girls

Geri Halliwell

Geri Halliwell decided to quit the Spice Girls after her bandmates refused to allow her to do a solo interview with a British breast cancer charity.

During her Spice Girl heyday, the singer revealed how she had found a lump in her breast and feared she could have had cancer.

U.K. charity Breast Cancer Care approached Halliwell in 1998 to help publicise the cause by giving an interview on her cancer scare.

But the star reveals that her fellow Spice Girls did not want her conducting interviews alone – and it was then that Halliwell decided to walk away from the group at the height of its fame.

In an interview on Britain’s Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, says says, “I was asked to do an interview for Breast Cancer Care and they asked me because I had a scare a long time ago and I was like, ‘fantastic’.

“Sometimes I just wanted to show up as just myself and for some reason it got stopped. They (the band) said, ‘We all want to do it or you’re not doing it.’

“I was like, ‘Do you know what? I haven’t come this far in the game to be told not to do that.’ So that was the defining moment.

“We were on this tiny private jet flying into London and I was just went, ‘Bye girls,’ And I thought, ‘Maybe you’re going to be happier without me.’ I didn’t say I was leaving but the next day I said, ‘I’m not coming back.’”

The band reunited in 2007 for a world tour before parting ways again in early 2008.

Halliwell: ‘You Either Love Or Hate Beckham’

Geri Halliwell leaving the Adelphi theatre

Geri Halliwell has compared her Spice Girls bandmate Victoria Beckham to pungent yeast spread Marmite – insisting you either love her or hate her.

Halliwell, along with Beckham, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton, shot to fame in 1996 with their Wannabe track and went on to become the biggest girlband in British history.

When quizzed over who she believed was the most popular bandmember, Halliwell based her answer on the number of dolls in their likeness that were sold to fans.

And although the Look At Me singer is convinced Chisholm sold the least dolls, she insists it is Beckham who divides opinion most – claiming she’s “like Marmite”, a British breakfast spread which has such a distinctive taste it polarises the nation into ‘Love it/hate it’ groups.

Halliwell tells Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, “It would be according to what dolls are left on the shelf. I think probably Sporty (Chisholm). Do you know what, actually I always refer to Victoria… you’d get this very black or white feeling, either absolute adoration or not. She knows that, she’s like Marmite.

“I absolutely love her. The girl that I know has got absolutely nothing to do with the one I see in the media.”
