Lewis Wants Ban On Whale Hunting

Leona Lewis

British singer Leona Lewis is urging Norway’s government officials to take a stronger stand against whale hunting after shocking footage was released showed the agonising death of one of the mammals.

The Bleeding Love hitmaker was horrified to see the clip, which features footage of the creature dying slowly after being speared by Norwegian whalers, and she has teamed up with welfare organization World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to take action.

Lewis is calling on Scandinavian leaders to stop commercial whaling and sign up to become a part of a 24-year-old global whaling moratorium, before the sea creatures become extinct.

She says, “The horrible footage WSPA has released shows the cruelty of Norwegian whaling and makes it clear that whaling must stop now!

“It certainly does not suit a modern, civilised nation, like Norway, to carry out this cruel practise and the Norwegian Government need to listen to the thousands of people around the world, including Norwegians, who are protesting against commercial whaling.”

The 25 year old isn’t the only celebrity campaigning for whales – Pierce Brosnan and Hayden Panettiere are also calling for a global ban on hunting.

Brosnan Attacks Obama Over Whales Promise

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan is taking aim at leader President Barack Obama in a new public service announcement for the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

In the PSA, the former 007 reminds Obama of promises he made about protecting sea-life when he was a presidential candidate.

Brosnan says, “As a candidate, you promised to end illegal whaling, and we applauded your leadership, but recent reports reveal your administration supports an international proposal, which gives Japan, Iceland and Norway the license to kill whales.”

The famous marine conservationist recently narrated Disney documentary Oceans – a film with a powerful message.

Brosnan is now urging government officials to take a stronger stand against whale hunting in international waters.

Brosnan wants Obama and other leaders to take a no-tolerance policy: “They (government) seem to be in favour of allowing Japan and Norway to go out and hunt whales again. It means they can go out there and start killing whales. It’s in moratorium so it’s not determined how many they can kill. Normally, there’s no justification for killing these creatures. Scientifically, there’s no justification. So if you want to do something about stopping the possible slaughter of whales, then you have to pick up the phone and call The White House.”

And the movie star hopes his new nature film will encourage youngsters to fight to save the world’s whales.

Farrell Not Impressed With Vegas Diner’s Fruity Treat

Colin Farrell

Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell and Pierce Brosnan are among the famous Irishmen who have been honoured with breakfast menu items at Las Vegas bar Murphy’s Law.

But Farrell is far from impressed with his fruity treat after hearing the more macho dishes of his fellow countrymen.

While Neeson’s item is “Texas toast topped with a seared-sausage patty, grilled jalapenos, scrambled egg and melted American cheese,” Farrell’s healthy option features pineapple, banana, cottage cheese and granola in a tortilla.

He says, “It’s just like you went in and did an inventory of my fridge.”

Brosnan: ‘Tomorrow Never Dies Was Not Fun’

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan had tired of movie superspy James Bond during the making of his second 007 adventure, Tomorrow Never Dies, and now reveals promoting the film was difficult – because he didn’t like it.

The suave star, who played Bond in four films, admits he had a great time shooting GoldenEye, but knew the follow-up wasn’t as good.

He tells Venice magazine, “I remember starting the first day on that film in an aircraft, flying a jet… and it was 102 degrees, and I’m wearing a helmet and sweater, and then I’m being strangled over and over again, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, this bloody character is going to kill me.’

“The press tour for that film was 22 countries. When I did it I knew the movie wasn’t up to speed; it wasn’t as good as GoldenEye and you have to bang the drum loudly to get the attention.”

Brosnan came to the end of his run as 007 after 2002’s Die Another Day. He was replaced by British actor Daniel Craig.

Looking back, the Irishman admits he always struggled as the movie spy: “I never felt that I really nailed it.”

Brosnan Wants Global Ban On Whale Hunting

Pierce Brosnan

Actor-turned-environmentalist Pierce Brosnan is urging government officials to take a stronger stand against whale hunting in international waters.

The Irish actor has become passionate about preserving marine life since narrating new Disneynature documentary Oceans, which explores the seas and what lies beneath them.

And he’s outraged after learning whale hunting has continued in Japan, Norway and Iceland despite a global whaling moratorium, which took effect in 1986.

The U.S. and other anti-whaling countries recently sought to strike a deal to create an international monitoring system to ensure a steadily-declining whale hunt.

But Brosnan wants officials to take a no-tolerance policy: “They (U.S. government) seem to be in favor of allowing Japan and Norway to go out and hunt whales again.

He adds, “That is why this film is so important to be seen. I think it will inspire many young people to do good things for the ocean… That is why I’m so passionate about this movie, so people can go see it and hopefully oppose this deal agreement.

“These creatures are in jeopardy once more.”

Brosnan’s Thomas Crown Affair Sequel In Trouble

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan’s upcoming The Thomas Crown Affair sequel has been thrown into jeopardy after director Paul Verhoeven quit in a dispute over the script.

The former James Bond star is planning to reprise his role as a high class art thief in a sequel to the 1999 thriller, which was a remake of a 1968 film, starring Steve McQueen.

The Irish actor confirmed the project in February (10), insisting movie bosses had “a script and a structure that is good”.

But the project now appears to be in trouble after Total Recall filmmaker Verhoeven walked out – blaming his departure on a “regime change” and a decision to use a different script.

He tells Moviehole.net, “I am not (involved) anymore. Things happened there, the regime changed. The initial ideas that they had about Thomas Crown 2 were interesting I thought. There was a script written by two young writers that used the fact that now we’re living 15, 20 years later. Ultimately, (the studio) decided not to (use) that script anymore. Then there was a regime change. And basically I felt that I could not (continue).”
