Twilight Bosses Confirm Breaking Dawn Split

Kristen Stewart

The final installment of the Twilight movie franchise will be split into two separate films, movie executives at Summit Entertainment have confirmed.

Speculation has been rife that the last book, Breaking Dawn, will be shown in two parts which will reportedly be shot back-to-back.

Author of the vampire books, Stephenie Meyer, admitted earlier this year (10) a decision had still not been made, while lead actress Kristen Stewart spoke out urging bosses to split the last book because the story “absolutely warrants two films.”

Now heads at Summit Entertainment have confirmed a decision has been made to make an extra movie.

A statement from the studio reads, “Summit Entertainment confirmed today that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011.

“Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with Billy Burke as Charlie Swan, as well as returning members of the Cullen Family including Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice and Kellan Lutz as Emmett.”

Twilight Film Delayed By Pay Dispute

The final installment in the Twilight movie series is facing delays as film bosses attempt to renegotiate pay deals to keep all of the actors on board for a fifth picture.

The last movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, is based on Stephenie Meyer’s fourth book and film chiefs are planning to expand the franchise by splitting the picture into two.

But bosses at Summit Entertainment have been slowed down by negotiations with some of the supporting cast who are reportedly demanding a pay increase to return for a fifth movie.

And film chiefs are allegedly planning to recast some of the parts if appropriate salary deals can’t be reached, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

A source tells the publication, “We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point. This thing is gonna be two movies, with or without the cast intact.”

Summit chiefs are also reportedly considering moving production to Louisiana in a bid to cut costs – the first installment was filmed in Portland, Oregon, while the second two boasted location shoots in Italy and Vancouver, Canada.

Shooting on the two Breaking Dawn films is slated to begin in the autumn (10), with both movies being shot back-to-back ahead of possible releases in November 2011 and summer 2012.

Condon Reaches Out To Twilight Fans

Director Bill Condon has written an open letter to fans of the Twilight movie series – insisting he is submerging himself in the vampire franchise to make sure the next film meets their expectations.

The Dreamgirls moviemaker will take charge of the fourth and final installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, making him the fourth director to tackle the bloodsucker series – following on from Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz and David Slade.

Condon admits he is nervous about taking on such a high-profile project, based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling books, and has reached out to the franchise’s faithful fans to reassure them he is doing all he can to make sure the finale goes to plan.

In a note posted on his Facebook.com page, Condon writes, “I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making Breaking Dawn.

“I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read Breaking Dawn twice, re-watched Catherine’s and Chris’ movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like (U.S. pop culture store) Hot Topic.

“I realise that this barely qualifies me for ‘newborn’ status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.”
