R&B star Usher vowed to build up a business empire outside of his music career following the birth of his sons – because he wants to leave his children a proper legacy.
The singer became a dad for the first time in 2007, welcoming Usher Raymond V with his now-ex-wife Tameka Foster. The couple’s second son, Naviyd Ely Raymond, was born in 2008.
Over the last few years, Usher has been working on his other interests, including launching a fragrance range, opening restaurants, buying a share in basketball team the Cleveland Cavaliers and setting up his media company, the Raymond Braun Media Group – the firm which signed teen sensation Justin Bieber.
And he admits he has been busy building up his empire for the sake of his two sons.
He tells Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald, “I learned a lot (having children). I now have a greater purpose. Children can make you more responsible and clear about where life is… It extended my priorities. It wasn’t just about music any more. It’s about doing good business, making sure your head’s in the right direction.
“I want to grow business in and outside of the music industry. I’m looking to build a company that caters to every aspect in the development of artists. Justin Bieber is only the beginning. I’ve created a business structure built around Usher as an enterprise and Usher as an artist.”
